Amin Jagani, CEO of HYGEIA Group has decided to run the position of Board Members for Board of Directors of the Ontario College of Pharmacists.
See Candidate Statement below:
Ontario’s pharmacy landscape is evolving, with pharmacists playing a pivotal role in improving frontline healthcare access and delivery through the Pharmacist Prescribing for Minor Ailments (PPMA) program. Since its 2023 launch, the program has reduced hospital visits and saved millions, yet challenges remain: low public awareness (only 3.6% utilization), pharmacist burnout (89% reported in 2021), inadequate pharmacist remuneration, and barriers to equitable access. Additionally, fragmented electronic health records and interprofessional collaboration hurdles hinder seamless care. Addressing these issues—through better funding, integrated systems, and targeted outreach — is crucial to maximizing pharmacists’ expanded scope while ensuring sustainability and equity in patient care.
If elected as Board Member of the Board of Directors of the Ontario College of Pharmacists, Amin plans to focus on the following three pillars:
(1) Strategic & Sustainable Scope Expansion:
Advocating for thoughtful, phased expansion of pharmacist scope, prioritizing operational feasibility, pharmacist well-being, and patient safety. Addressing burnout with practical solutions for workflow optimization and technology integration.
(2) Enhancing Public Trust & Equitable Access:
Championing targeted public awareness campaigns and innovative strategies to ensure equitable access to pharmacist services for all Ontarians, especially underserved and marginalized communities.
(3) Fiscal Stewardship & Interprofessional Integration:
Advocating for sustainable, patient-centered remuneration models and fostering genuine, seamless interprofessional collaboration through shared digital infrastructure and mutual respect.
Voting for the Ontario College of Pharmacists starts on July 17th and concludes at 5:00 pm on August 6th.
